Get a Library Card

Lapeer District Library Card:

A Lapeer District Library card is valid throughout the seven branches in the Lapeer District Library system.  No materials can be checked out without a library card. Proof of residency must be provided for library card approval. When a patron owes over $4.00, borrowing privileges are forfeited until the debt is cleared.  Please be aware that items checked out on your card become your responsibility.  Card replacement cost is $1.00. All information is protected under the Library Privacy Act.

Lapeer District Library Card

Residency:

Anyone can use the Lapeer District Library regardless of residency.

Patrons may borrow physical materials without charge if:

A $45 non-resident card is available for those patrons not meeting the criteria above. 

Patrons residing in Lapeer District Library’s legal service area have full access to digital material. Patrons outside of the legal service area do not have access to LDL digital materials.

Our LEGAL SERVICE AREA includes: Arcadia Township, Burlington Township, Burnside Township, Clifford Village, Columbiaville Village, Deerfield Township, Elba Township, Hadley Township, Lapeer City, Lapeer Township, Marathon Township, Mayfield Township, Metamora Township, Metamora Village, Oregon Township, Otter Lake Village and Rich Township.

Expired Library Cards

To renew your library card:  Please visit any of our 7 locations and bring your current photo ID with the correct address or proof of residency

Patrons Under 18:

Both the child and the parent/guardian MUST be present to obtain a library card. The parent must sign all applicable releases on the library card application.  A driver's license or verification of name and address of the parent or guardian is required. All information regarding an individual library account, regardless of age, is protected under the Library Privacy Act.

Teacher Cards

A Lapeer District Library teacher card provides extended borrowing privileges to employees of public and private schools in Lapeer County, regardless of personal residency. 

Extending Borrowing Privileges provided with a Teacher Card

  • Physical materials: 50 items, 50 holds
  • MeLCat loans are allowed.
  • Full access to all digital materials. 

To apply for a teacher card, bring a valid photo ID and proof employment at a public/private school in Lapeer County (check, paycheck stub or school ID) to any LDL branch.

The person applying for the card is responsible for all items checked out, not the school. LDL teacher cards expire 365 days after creation. Teacher cards can be renewed but require school employment verification.
