Questions about the Library
Born in Lapeer, Michigan in 1889, Marguerite Lofft de Angeli is one of the best known and highly regarded author/illustrators in American children's literature. She was awarded the Newbery Medal in 1950 for The Door in the Wall and was among the first to be inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame. For more information on her life and her works, visit the Marguerite de Angeli Archive site.
The district library board is a seven-member appointed board, and where you live will determine how you join the board. The supervisors in Lapeer and Mayfield Townships each appoint one board member, and the City of Lapeer Commissioners appoint one board member. The other four members are appointed by the County Commissioners and they are at-large members so may live anywhere else in the library’s legal service area*. Contact the library director for more information, or call Lapeer or Mayfield Township, City of Lapeer or Lapeer County clerks, for the steps needed to apply to be on the library board.
