Register to Vote

To register to vote, you must be all of the following:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • At least 18 years old by Election Day
  • A resident of Michigan
  • A resident of the city or township where you are applying to register to vote.

Last day to register for August primary is July 9th, 2018!

Voter ID requirements 

By law, every Michigan voter must present picture identification at the polls, or sign an affidavit attesting that he or she is not in possession of picture identification. Remember to bring an acceptable form of photo identification to the polls on Election Day.

Request an absentee ballot

A registered voter may obtain an absent voter ballot if they are:

  • age 60 years old or older
  • unable to vote without assistance at the polls
  • expecting to be out of town on election day
  • in jail awaiting arraignment or trial
  • unable to attend the polls due to religious reasons
  • appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of residence.

Ballot language:
Shall the Lapeer District Library, formed by the County of Lapeer, the City of Lapeer, the Township of Lapeer and the Township of Mayfield, in the County of Lapeer, State of Michigan, borrow a sum  not to exceed Twelve Million Six Hundred Thousand Dollars ($12,600,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds therefor, for the purpose of paying all or a portion of the costs of acquiring , constructing, equipping and furnishing a new main library facility to be located at the southwest corner of Davison and Demille Roads on a site already owned by the Library and making improvements to that site, including costs related thereto?                                                                                 
The following is for informational purposes only:
The maximum number of years the bonds may be outstanding, exclusive of refunding, is twenty-five (25) years; the estimated millage to be levied to pay the proposed bonds in the first year is .42 mills (which is equal to $0.42 per $1,000 of taxable value); and the estimated simple average annual millage required to retire the bonds over 25 years is .34 mills (which is equal to $0.34 per $1,000 of taxable value)..
